The “Memphis Belle,” a WWII-era B-17 heavy bomber will be at Falcon Field through Monday, Nov. 26. This is the aircraft they used in the movie “Memphis Belle.” “Although they will not be doing rides (they are doing testing with the FAA), it is a really neat and historic aircraft to come out and see,” said Mike Melton, an official at Atlanta Regional Airport — Falcon Field in Peachtree City. “The aircraft will be flying a good bit over the next couple of days but will be parking here on the ramp during their breaks. Could be a fun family outing for folks around the holiday.” Made by Boeing, the four-engine Flying Fortress gained iconic status during strategic bombing runs over Germany in World War II, dropping more bombs than any other U.S. aircraft in the war. Only about a dozen remain in flying condition, including the “Memphis Belle.” Photo/Special.
