A Peachtree City police officer was honored Thursday for saving a resident’s life by performing CPR in late September.
Cpl. Chris Hyatt was traveling to work when he heard the medical call broadcast, and he diverted to the incident scene because he was closer than the on-duty responding officer, officials said.
Hyatt found the victim unconscious, not breathing and without a pulse, and he immediately started CPR, also known as cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Hyatt continued the process until paramedics arrived.
The paramedics continued CPR and also administered a shock to the patient’s heart using an automatic external defibrillator (AED), and the victim regained a pulse and respiration while inside the residence.
Sgt. Trent Jenkins of the fire department said “the quality of CPR and quick actions of Cpl. Hyatt resulted in this individual regaining a pulse and breathing.”
“Cpl. Hyatt is a credit to his department and the community which he serves. On behalf of my crew and myself, I would like to thank him for his help,” Jenkins said.
Hyatt was presented with the Life Saver award by Police Chief H.C. “Skip” Clark and Mayor Don Haddix.
