Momentum can be one of the more important factors in a football game. The Fayette County Tigers had a wealth of momentum in the second half, scoring 30 straight points, but it wasn’t enough for them to hang on when the momentum switched back to Troup.

Troup scored first but Fayette tied the game early in the second quarter on a six yard touchdown run by Jason Williams. Troup scored two more times and missed an extra point to make the score 20-7 at the half. In the third quarter, it was all Fayette. Williams connected on a 31 yard touchdown pass to Antonio Messick. Williams then scored on a quarterback keeper and converted a two point conversion to give Fayette County a 23-20 lead. Fayette recovered a fumble on Troup’s next drive and Vincent Bey scored on a 20 yard touchdown run. This was followed by another Fayette fumble recovery and a 30 yard touchdown pass from Williams to Ashton Jackson.

Fayette County led 37-20 with just over nine minutes to go but Troup scored and converted a two point conversion and added another touchdown with three and a half minutes left. They did not convert the two point conversion that time and trailed 37-34. They took a 40-37 lead after a 10 yard touchdown pass and a blocked extra point and sealed the win after returning a Fayette fumble 47 yards for a touchdown.

“We made too many mistakes,” said Fayette County head coach Mike Davis. “We didn’t tackle very well.” Davis was proud of the way his team responded to trailing 20-7 and stated the team needs to respond in the final two games. “We’re still in the the hunt.”

The Tigers (2-6) will play at Shaw next Saturday.

McIntosh hosted Creekside and lost 21-13. Mike Licitra kicked two field goals and quarterback Andrew Johnson scored on a short quarterback keeper late in the fourth quarter. The Chiefs (5-3) will play at Northgate next Friday.

Starr’s Mill took on Northgate tonight and lost 27-10. Daniel Rorick kicked a field goal for the Panthers and Kyle Moseley connected with Timothy Roberts on a 76 yard touchdown. The Panthers (2-6) host Whitewater (7-1) next Friday. The Wildcats were off tonight.
