Christian music artist John Waller of Coweta County will lead worship at Legacy Christian Church on Rockaway Road in Senoia on Oct. 24 at 6:30 p.m. Part of the worship service will include Waller’s recounting of his family’s story of the recent adoption of two children from Ukraine.

Waller’s story also will detail the activities of Project One Forty Three, a non-profit organization that advocates for older orphans from Ukraine and Latvia through a hosting program that brings children to the U.S. to be hosted in homes of families who care for them and give them the love of a family for four to five weeks.

The program exposes children to a world outside of what they have known, creating hope and building self-esteem. The children receive love and encouragement from their host family while learning English and exploring a new culture.

Although Project One Forty Three is not an adoption program, hosting creates a bridge for these children (typically between 4 and 15 years old) to meet a family who would consider adoption after meeting them. It’s often the host family, but many times, it is another family who comes to know the child, but was unaware of such a program.

“We could tell you story-after-story of ‘Divine appointments,’” says Don Sullivan who, along with his wife, Dawn, volunteers his time with Project One Forty Three.

This past summer, Waller and his wife, Josee, hosted and then adopted two children, brother and sister, through the program. The story of how they were led to host and adopt is quite compelling and Waller tells it well.

This event is free and open to the public (a “love offering” will be taken). While the event is intended to benefit John and Josee’s adoption of the children, it will also raise awareness of Project One Forty Three and the winter hosting program.

Interested families can get more information about hosting at this event as well as through the website at www.P143.com.

Legacy Christian is at 1150 Rockaway Rd., Senoia, near the water tower.
