This past summer American Legion Post 105 and its Auxiliary sent 35 Fayette County, McIntosh, and Whitewater High School students to the week long Georgia Boys and Girls State program at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro.  Recently, the Post held a tribute at their monthly dinner meeting and heard many of the students speak.  During their week at GSU, the ‘Citizens’ made friends from across the state, formed city, county, and state governments, and campaigned for office.  They were elected to positions including city councilman, mayor, police chief and even Girls State Governor. In the back row are Tyler Blevins (MHS) George Harris (WWHS) Grant Herman (MHS) Doug Learnard (MHS) and Hannah Mason (MHS). In the front row are Kelsey Mason (WWHS) Jamie Gesslein (FCHS) EunBin Yi (WWHS) Christuana Barnes (WWHS) Michael Plunkett (MHS) Meghan Plunkett (MHS) and Keandra Diamond (FCHS). Photo/Special.
