Patricia Louise Brown Finch, of Sharpsburg, Ga. passed away on Monday, July 9, 2012 after a long and courageous struggle with brain cancer.
She is survived by her husband, Randy Finch; son and daughter-in-law, David and Julie Cureton of Alpharetta; stepson, Eric Finch and wife, Anita of Maryland, stepson, Rhett Finch of California; sister, Nancy Brown of Decatur; brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Karen Brown of Tennessee; brother-in-law, Don Finch of Woodstock; grandchildren, Clara and Elise Cureton, and Natalie and Sidney Finch.
Born in 1948, Patricia was the daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth Brown and grew up in Decatur, Ga. She graduated from Decatur High School in 1966, earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Agnes Scott College, and masters and specialists degrees in education, with honors, from Georgia State University.
For most of her career, she evaluated special needs students as a school psychologist and retired in 2002 as the lead psychologist for the Coweta County Board of Education.
Patricia lived a full and selfless life of loving attention to her parents, husband, son, siblings, students and friends. She enjoyed traveling, competing in horse shows, training and walking trails with her dogs and, especially, playing golf. She met Randy while golfing. They traveled the country together touring and golfing before her illness.
Patricia and her son David were very close and she was thrilled to be able to spend time with her grandchildren. Her peaceful but determined demeanor while afflicted with terrible illness was an inspiration to her family and all who knew her.
The family is grateful to doctors and staff of Duke University and Piedmont hospitals who skillfully and compassionately cared for her.
The visitation will be held at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home in Peachtree City, Ga. on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at 4 p.m. at the Pennington UMC Cemetery in Pennington, Ga.
