A Jonesboro man was arrested Wednesday for using a cellphone to snap photos of a woman in a dressing room at the Goodwill store in Fayetteville.
Fayetteville police are urging female shoppers to beware of voyeurs who are undertaking the exact same activity, and they are asking anyone in the store who may have seen the suspect to contact them.
In this case, Maurice Smith, 32, of Jonesboro, was spotted by the victim who followed him until police could arrive. Smith was apprehended in the parking lot and taken to jail, charged with peeping tom and unlawful surveillance.
A search warrant on Smith’s phone revealed more voyeuristic photos, and surveillance video shows Smith taking the photos “with his one month old daughter in his arms and in full view of at least one other customer,” police officials said.
Anyone who was in the Goodwill store is asked to call Fayetteville police at 770-461-4441, as police are trying to determine if any of the other photos on Smith’s phone were taken there.
Police are specifically warning women to be alert of their surroundings and to report any suspicious behavior immediately.
