Candidates for contested races on the Fayette County Commission, Fayette County Board of Education along with candidates for sheriff and the various judicial seats will face off in June in a series of debates sponsored by the Fayette County Issues Tea Party.
The first debate will be held June 14 and will be presented in two parts. First up will be the candidates for the contested judicial races followed by the candidates for sheriff.
The second debate will be held June 19 and will feature candidates for the Fayette County Commission races.
The third and final debate comes June 28 and will include the candidates for the contested Fayette County Board of Education races.
Organization Candidate Search Committee Chair Leslie Edwards said each of the the debates will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Harvest Christian Community Center in the Fayette Place Center, located at 383 North Glynn Street in Fayetteville.
“These debates are different from the forums presented by other groups,” Edwards said. “We encourage lively discussions of local issues we the people want to know about. This will be your best opportunity to meet, hear and speak to those who want your vote.”
Edwards said the public along with current and future office holders are asked to submit topics and questions in advance which will be shared with the candidates the week prior to the debates. The submitted topics, but not the questions, will be shared with the candidates.
Questions from the public will also be taken at the debates, time permitting.
