A Newnan man was arrested June 3 after burglarizing the Fayetteville home of his mother and stepfather and assaulting the stepfather.
Melvin E. Meeks, 44, of Parkway North in Newnan, was charged with burglary, battery and criminal trespass in the incident, according to Fayette County Sheriff’s spokesman Brent Rowan.
The assault appeared to be domestic violence-related, Rowan said. He said Meeks made a forced entry into the home during the early morning hours of June 3 and subsequently assaulted his stepfather. The injuries to Meek’s stepfather were superficial and he did not require medical transport, Rowan said.
Meek’s mother was also at home during the burglary and assault, Rowan added.
Rowan said that during the assault and intrusion the home suffered some degree of damage.
Deputies a short time later located Meeks at the Coweta County line and placed him under arrest, according to reports.
