John R. Terry, Sr. age 83, passed away on May 3, 2012 in Mooresville, N.C. following a long illness.
Born May 28,1928 to Emily and R. P. Terry, Bob grew up in Miami with his two brothers, Roy Terry currently of Tallahassee, Fla., and Jim Terry currently of Spring, Texas. He attended Miami High School and was captain of the football team. Following discharge from the Navy Bob went to law school at the University of Florida where he met and married Helen Leitner. He worked as a prosecutor in St. Petersburg, then private practice in Miami later becoming president of The Brickell Bank which became Barnett Bank.
Bob retired to Fayette County in 1992. Bob had a deep appreciation of family history and art. He often shared what he learned with family and others and provided items from his collections to various museums and libraries.
Bob is survived by his brothers Roy and Jim, his son Bob Terry, Jr., his daughter Helen Terry Kumpe, and four grandchildren Savannah and Emory Kumpe and Matt and Nate Terry.
It was Bob’s wish to be buried at the National Military Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla., where there will be private graveside service in the coming months.
