The new Piedmont Newnan Hospital officially opened on May 8. And before the day was over the hospital had delivered its first baby.

Kimberly Gomez-Elvira, the first baby born at the new Piedmont Newnan Hospital on Poplar Road, came into the world on Tuesday, May 8 at 7:55 p.m. The Gomez family was presented with two gift baskets: one from Piedmont Newnan Hospital and another from the Auxiliary volunteers at the Poplar Shop, the hospital’s new gift shop, according to hospital representatives.

“We have had a beautiful experience at Piedmont Newnan Hospital,” said Julia Gomez. “Since we arrived, the service has been outstanding. The building is beautiful, and everyone has been very welcoming. We were really surprised that she was the first baby born at the new hospital.”

Neely Dean, M.D., of Piedmont Physicians Obstetrics and Gynecology at Newnan, delivered the seven pounds, three ounces bundle of joy in one of the new Labor-Delivery-Recovery (LDR) suites at the new facility. Baby Kimberly is the fourth child of Grantville residents Julia and Ramiro Gomez. After visiting Dr. Dean’s office earlier in the day on Tuesday, Julia Gomez was sent to the new facility on Poplar Road to be induced.

“Our staff is thrilled to be in our new home on Poplar Road,” said April Foley, director of women’s services at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. “We are excited to continue to deliver top-quality care to our patients in this new enhanced environment. We couldn’t be happier to deliver the first baby in the hospital on the first day it opens.”
