Fayette County Sheriff’s investigators between April 29 and May 9 arrested five people in connection to various crimes including burglary, theft, illegal dumping and fraud.
Sheriff’s investigators in one of the cases made two arrests on May 3 in connection with a burglary which occurred earlier that day, said spokesman Brent Rowan. Investigators arrested Derek Alphonzo Cain, 28, of Fayetteville and Ayodele B. Butler, 41, of Atlanta, charging both with burglary, said Rowan.
Rowan said the case involved Cain and Butler making unlawful entry into a residence on Gingercake Road with the intention of stealing items. The homeowner in this case called 911 when she returned home to find Cain and Butler attempting to steal a lawnmower from inside the garage, Rowan said.
Deputies responding to the home arrested the two suspects at the intersection of Gingercake Road and Ga. Highway 92 North a short time after the 911 call was made by the victim, said Rowan.
Sheriff’s investigators in another case made an arrest on April 29 in connection with a theft which occurred on April 12. Rowan said investigators arrested Wayland Walden, 50, of Fairburn and charged him with theft by taking.
Rowan said the case involved Walden stealing approximately $1,700 worth of construction tools and equipment from a home on Ebenezer Road. Walden fled the state after learning Fayette investigators had obtained a warrant for his arrest. Walden was later arrested by a Mississippi state trooper on a traffic stop after learning about the outstanding criminal arrest warrant, said Rowan.
The third case pertained to the arrest of Michael B. Williams, 30, of College Park, on May 9 in connection with an illegal dumping incident which occurred on May 2. Rowan said Williams was charged with commercial dumping and driving while a habitual violator.
This case involves Williams dumping a large amount of trash in the back yard of a residence on Ga. Highway 314 in north Fayette County, said Rowan. Williams had been hired by a Fayette County citizen to dump trash. Rowan said Williams later discarded it behind the residence on Hwy. 314 instead of taking it to a waste management center. Williams was operating a motor vehicle on a suspended license for being a habitual violator when he discarded the trash, Rowan added.
The final case involved the arrest on May 3 of Fayetteville resident Robin Spratlin, 28, on three counts financial transaction card fraud and one count of theft by taking, said Rowan.
Rowan said the case involved Spratlin stealing the wallet of a Fayette County resident that contained $300 and two credit cards. Spratlin then used the stolen credit cards to make several unauthorized purchases, said Rowan.
