The Fayetteville City Council on May 3 will consider a resolution supporting the Lafayette Village Senior Community development for which a preliminary concept plan was approved last year. The council is expected to hear a project update from a representative of the Beverly J. Searles Foundation.
A Searles representative at the May 3 meeting will make a brief presentation and will update the council on the current status of the project.
The development on 11 acres just west of Lafayette Avenue and Ga. Highway 54 was slated to occur in three phases and would be restricted to individuals aged 55 and above. All the units would require independent living arrangements, Searles representatives said at the time.
The approved plan called for the construction of two 3-4-story buildings housing approximately 80 one- and two-bedroom apartments while a future phase would include 28 cottage-style units located in buildings on the north side of the property.
The senior residential living project was a federal tax credit-funded arrangement routed through the Georgia Dept. of Community Affairs (DCA). The project was put on hold in late 2011 after it was not selected in the current round of funding. Searles representatives last year said they hoped the project would be included in 2012.
Also at the meeting, the council will hear the first reading pertaining to the annual adoption of the city’s Zoning Map and Future Land Use Map.
