The building is virtually complete and now it’s time for the landscaping. The Senoia City Council on March 19 approved a change request for the new Senoia Library that includes the installation of a number of oak trees that will surround the building that overlooks Marimac Lake. Easily mistaken for a lakeside home, the library could open by mid-May.
The change order from Headley Construction totaled $7,345 and included items such as the purchase of nine Pin oak trees at $600 each. In total, there will be 46 trees on the library grounds.
Funding for the project will come from library impact fees.
The long-awaited new library could open by mid-May and will feature a structure that looks much more like a large home than a public building. And to top off the setting the library is positioned adjacent to the lake at Marimac Lakes Park.
The 6,563 square-foot library is situated on 1.04-acres on Pylant Street and is bound on the north by residential property, on the south by the city-owned Marimac Lake Park and on the east by the Pylant Street Well property, also owned by the city. The library will have parking space for 35 vehicles.
The Coweta County Library Board nearly three years ago approved a recommendation for the placement of the building on the Pylant Street property.
Just in case the library ever needs more space, plans for the facility include the potential for an expansion of up to 50 percent additional square footage due to the positioning of the building on the site. If an expansion were ever needed it would require relocating the parking area.
Funds for the $1.7 million project project had been in place for some time. Approximately $1.2 million in funding came from from state sources that can only be used for construction and equipment. Another $500,000 came from a previous Coweta County Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax initiative. An additional $250,000 was provided by the city.
