Polls will be open this week in Fayetteville, Peachtree City and Tyrone for any voter who is ready to cast their ballot in the presidential preference primary.

The county elections office on Saturday welcomed voters from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the second floor of the county’s Stonewall government complex in downtown Fayetteville.

The idea of Saturday voting is to make it convenient for those who can’t vote early during the limited hours available Monday through Friday.

So far with early voting underway, between 300 and 400 people have cast their ballots, said Elections Supervisor Tom Sawyer. Speculation is that many voters remain undecided with the field down to front-runners Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul.

Officials are hopeful that early voting figures will pick up. For if too many voters procrastinate, they may find longer lines on election day March 6.

Starting Monday, Feb. 27, voters will be able to cast ballots in Peachtree City and Tyrone as well, Sawyer said. The Peachtree City polling location is in the Floy Farr room of the Peachtree City Library and the Tyrone polling location is Town Hall.

The last day to vote during the early voting period is Friday, March 2.

Sawyer noted that the Republican ballot will contain names of candidates who have dropped out of the national race, but there will be no official notice available to remind voters. That’s because the campaigns for those candidates did not file an official notification to the Georgia Republican Party, Sawyer said.

There will be no such confusion on those selecting a Democratic ballot, as incumbent President Barack Obama is the only name on the ballot.

Voters who wait until election day to cast their ballot between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. can use an online service to verify the location of their polling place. That service is available at www.sos.ga.gov/mvp. Users will have to provide their first initial and land name along with their birthday and their county of residence to access the information.
