A north Fayette man has been denied bond following his arrest for shaking a 9-week-old infant and causing multiple injuries Feb. 4, according to court documents.

The infant suffered “subdural hematomas bilaterally and ischemic injury to the brain” according to the arrest warrant for Jamal Thomas, 20, of 210 North Fayette Drive, Fayetteville.

The warrant also accuses Thomas of striking the baby’s head on a door frame, causing an injury and visible bruising to the infant’s right forehead.

Thomas is charged with one felony count of cruelty to children in the first degree.

The case is being investigated by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, but detectives aren’t releasing many details about the incident, including whether or not Thomas is related to the baby.

The incident occurred at the same address that is listed as Thomas’ home, according to the arrest warrant.

Fayette County Magistrate James A. White declined to set a bond for Thomas, which means he will remain in jail for at least the time being.
