Bypass opponents request commission institute monthly report

Open letter to the Fayette County Commission: Our public officials have held homeowners and property owners in the vicinity of the West Fayetteville Bypass hostage for more than four years.

We go to sleep every night and wake up every morning with West Bypass construction and destruction looming over our heads. We cannot plan for the future. We cannot sell our homes or property. Our daily lives are filled with insecurity.

Fayette taxpayers provided the money to build the West Bypass. Fayette homeowners were forced to relinquish their property and some of their homes. All for what?

Construction of the West Bypass is destroying property values, neighborhoods, and lives.

Lack of planning and foresight has already caused the death of one person. Fayette citizens had to beg the county to install caution lights and signs because the construction process has created another extremely dangerous situation for motorists to navigate on Sandy Creek Road. Fayette County public officials are the ones who chose to seize our property, devalue our homes, impact our neighborhoods, and cast a shadow of doom and gloom over our lives.

People living within the West Fayetteville Bypass area and all Fayette taxpayers deserve better.

Speaking for the West Fayetteville Bypass Coalition, I am respectfully requesting that our commissioners, County Engineer Carlos Christian, Public Works Director Phil Mallon, and County Administrator Jack Krakeel provide a monthly public progress report with regards to construction of the West Bypass. We need to know what has been accomplished and what will be accomplished on a monthly basis.

A construction update should be provided at the first regular commission meeting of each month along with a preview of what will be accomplished in the coming month. Also, the information should be provided to our local newspapers.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
