A 13-year-old Fayetteville boy was arrested Wednesday night after he threatened his mother and sister with a knife at a home in the Heritage Lake subdivision, police said.

The incident happened shortly before 7 p.m. during an altercation between the youth and his mother, who had told him he could not go out with his brother because his grades had been bad and he had been getting in trouble, police said.

The juvenile had become upset and began smashing items in the home, and then he went into the kitchen and picked up a knife, threatening his mother and his sister before throwing it down and going to his room, police said.

After that, the juvenile went upstairs, grabbed a belt and started swinging it around, police said.

The 13-year-old was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and was taken to a youth detention center, police said.

The incident occurred at 245 Heritage Lake Drive, according to the police report.
