In F’ville campaign funds, Steele leads the race

When it comes to spending money for political campaigns in Fayetteville, Mayor Ken Steele tops the list with Post 2 City County candidate Mickey Edwards a close second and Post 1 candidate Edward Johnson a more distant third.

The campaign disclosures of mayoral candidate Greg Clifton were not provided by press time.

Candidates for all Georgia elections file campaign disclosure forms with the Georgia Ethics Commission.

Steele as of Oct. 25 had $10,009.54 in total contributions. Beyond contributions of $100 or more the report listed $1,261.80 in contributions of less than $100, $1,500 in in-kind donations and a $2,940 loan.

Steele as of Oct. 25 had total expenditures of $3.720.42. Those included campaign expenditures for items such as campaign materials, signs, ads, equipment for ads and website and $148.59 in expenditures of less than $100.

In noting contributions of $100 or more, Steele showed $1,000 from Ralph Balchin; $500 from Fred Mortensen, $500 from Congressman Lynn Westmoreland; $250 from Don Balfour; $200 each from Michael Wheat, O.M. Stephens, James Hanchey and Fayetteville Planning Commissioner Bill Talley; $165 from Douglas Walker; $150 from Tim Scraff; and $100 each from F. Sams, Glenn Brewer, Wayne Reynolds, Walt White, Vicky Turner, Robert Detwiller, Sam Burch, Randy Boyd Wallace Kite, Councilman Larry Dell, Planning Commissioner Alan Feldman and Tony Parrott.

The challenger in the mayoral race is Greg Clifton. Contacted Monday when his campaign disclosure information was unavailable on the Georgia Ethics Commission website, Clifton said he had been late filing. Clifton told The Citizen he would provide a copy of the filing but that information had not been supplied by press time Tuesday.

Candidates in the Post 1 City Council race are incumbent Wilson Price and challenger Edward Johnson.

In his campaign information filed with the Ethics Commission, Price as of Oct. 25 showed a total of $1,541 in contributions and $1,350.97 in expenditures.

Price listed $1,141 in contributions of less than $100 and $400 in contributions of $100 or more. Those contributing $100 or more came from four individuals that gave $100 each. Those included R.M. Boyd, Michael Rossetti, Al Hovey-King and Jerry Svec.

Expenditures listed by Price as of Oct. 18 totaled $1,350.97 for campaign newspaper ads and items such as stamps and envelopes.

Post 1 challenger Edward Johnson listed $2,375 in total contributions and $1,568.16 for the Sept. 30 reporting period.

Johnson showed $325 in contributions of $100 or more that came from the Fayette County Democratic Committee. Johnson also listed a $50 contribution from a private individual. A $2,000 loan made up the remainder of the contributions.

Johnson’s expenditures totaled $1,568.15 for items such as posters, signs, flyer, business cards, printer ink, paper, envelopes, magnetic signs and window decals.

The race for the Post 2 council seat includes Mickey Edwards and Cathy Cochran.

Edwards in the Sept. 30 report listed $6,722.94 in contributions and $6,722.94 in expenditures and in the Oct. 25 report listed an additional $3,004 in contributions and $3,004 in expenditures. All contributions came from Edwards and totaled $9,726.94

Expenditures included items such as various types of signs, ads, equipment and a campaign plan.

Cochran in her Sept. 30 report listed $875.40 in total contributions and $335.93 in total expenditures.

Individual contributions totaling $800 came from a $500 in-kind for website development and $100 each from Deborah Steele, Suzanne Dell and F.A. Sams.

Other contributions included $75.40 in cash and $24 for in-kind.

Expenditures listed in the report showed $185.50 for car magnets.
