One of Coweta County’s sons has fallen. Twenty-three year-old Spc. Adrian G. Mills was killed in Iraq on Sept. 29. The funeral for the Northgate High School graduate will be held on Oct. 11 at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan.
Information released by the U.S. Dept. of Defense stated that Spc. Adrian G. Mills, 23, of Newnan, died Sept. 29 in Kirkuk, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his unit was attacked by insurgents using indirect fire. Mills at the time of his death was supporting Operation New Dawn.
Mills was assigned to the 272nd Military Police Company, 519th Military Police Battalion in Fort Polk, La.
Mills graduated from Northgate High School in Coweta County in 2007 and was a member of the Air Force JROTC.
Master Sergeant Ron Wolfe at Northgate High spoke of Mills as someone active in the program beginning in 2005, participating in a variety of JROTC activities such as the color guard and saber team.
“Adrian was active and a leader in the program and in the school,” Wolfe said. “He knew when to be a leader at the right time and he knew when to have fun at the right time. Adrian led by positive example.”
It is expected that Mills will arrive at the Newnan-Coweta Airport sometime on Saturday though the exact time was not known at press time.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home located at 38 Jackson Street in Newnan. The burial will follow later in the day at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.
