Mr. Alvin Mayfield, 98, of Tyrone, Ga. passed away Sept. 5, 2011. He was a lifelong member of Hopewell United Methodist Church, a retired civil servant at Fort Gillem and was a faithful and long time employee of Parrott Funeral Home and Herschel McDaniel Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by his wife Johnnie Mae Mayfield, daughter Alvene Mayfield Grantham, and son Larry Mayfield.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, McKay and Glenda Mayfield of Rabun Gap, Ga.; Murray and Connie Mayfield of Palmetto, Ga.; daughter, Joan Mayfield Adams of Peachtree City, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Donna Mayfield of Fayetteville, Ga.; sister, Mary Mayfield of Griffin, Ga.; and 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home. Dr. Ed Nelson and Rev. Billy Beard officiating. Interment to follow at Hopewell Cemetery.
