Registration is now open for the Fayette Youth Protection Home’s first concert competition. The concert competition, a benefit for the Fayette Youth Protection Homes, will be the first of its kind in this area. Local middle school and high school musicians will compete against each other in the categories of choral music, band music or orchestra music. The concert competition will take place on Thursday, October 13 at the New Hope Baptist Church’s South Campus location.

Event Coordinator, Pam Reid, a FYPH Board Member is very excited about this inaugural event.  “This will not be your traditional benefit; it is truly going to be a competition.”
In the spirit of the hugely popular television program, “Glee,” local middle school and high school musicians will have an opportunity to compete against each other.
According to Reid, “This is going to be an event for our talented local musicians and their families.  I am hoping for a fun night of family friendly music; showcasing the talents of our musical youth.  This is an opportunity for our musically talented students to help other students.”

The proceeds from the event will benefit Fayette Youth Protection Homes, a non-profit organization which provides shelter and support to children who have been the victims of abuse or neglect.

To get the word out about the competition Reid was fortunate to be able to address the Fayette public school middle and high school music teachers, at a meeting in early August.  She explained to the teachers that she hoped they would help promote the competition to their students, and she enticed them with an incentive to do so.  The school whose music student(s) win the competition will be awarded a monetary prize to be used for their schools music program.

Performances for the concert competition will be in three specific categories; choral, band or orchestra. This competition is open to middle school and high school aged musicians. Middle school students and high school students will not compete against each other. Groups of 2-25 musicians will perform; there will be no solo performances. Three music professionals (one from each music category) will judge this event. Group winners will receive $50 – $200 in cash and prizes.

Musicians who are interested in auditioning for the concert competition need to register on line by Friday, Sept. 2.  Registration rules and forms are available at www.fyph.org under the heading “Special Events”. An audition is required for the concert competition. Auditions will be held on Sept. 22 and 23.  Notification for audition date, time and location will be made on Sept. 3.

The Fayette Youth Concert Competition will be held Thursday, October 13 at 6:30 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, South Campus which is located at 1563 Joel Cowan Parkway.
