As part of its longstanding commitment to support the communities in which it does business, Cargill has donated $6,000 to the Coweta County 4H Council to provide funding for water conservation workshops for elementary through high school educators. The water conservation workshops were held for July 27 and 28.
“Cargill’s donation will make a significant impact in Coweta County by improving access to environmental education opportunities for more than 3,000 students,” said Stephanie Butcher, extension coordinator in Coweta County. “The Water Conservation team, which hosts the Water Conservation Workshops, believes that the lessons are the impetus for making water conservation a part of both the students’ and their families’ lives.”
With Cargill’s donation, the Coweta County 4H Council will provide the Coweta County Water Education Team with funds to supplement water conservation workshops. Cargill’s funding will allow for two separate workshops: a traditional workshop for elementary school educators and a new workshop for middle and high school educators. Both workshops appropriately enrich students through educational videos, lesson plans and hands-on activities.
“The Coweta County Water Conservation team is a collaborative partnership working to educate and encourage local citizens to understand water quality issues and participate in conservation efforts,” said Shannon Norris, complex manager at Cargill’s case ready meats facility in Newnan. “At Cargill, we understand how important it is to reduce the impact we all have on the environment, and we’re happy to support conservation initiatives.”
