Peachtree City residents are being invited to share ideas about an effort to preserve city history with a special display at city hall plaza.

The Peachtree City History Time Line committee is hosting two public meetings that will feature a brief presentation about the current vision for the project. The committee also wants to hear thoughts and ideas from other citizens as the project continues to move forward.

The first meeting is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 7 at 4 p.m. at City Hall. The second meeting will be Tuesday, Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

The History Time Line project is being undertaken with private donations from local businesses and citizens. In light of the city’s 50th anniversary last year, the movement started as a way to honor Peachtree City founders Joel Cowan and Floy Farr.

The 10-member Time Line committee consists of a number of well-recognized names who have helped the city grow over the years. Among them are businessmen Gordon Fleming and Hollis Harris, former city clerk Frances Meaders and Jerry Peterson, who was one of the city’s driving forces under private developer Peachtree City Development Corporation, which later became Pathway Communities.

Also on the committee are Fayette County Historian Carolyn Cary, current City Clerk Betsy Tyler, noted architect Jim Strickland, planning commissioner and development authority member David Conner, Kay Henson Lloyd and Lee Henson McKinney.

Lloyd and McKinney are lifelong residents of Peachtree City and the daughters of former Councilman Roy Henson. Conner is the son of former Mayor Chip Conner.
