Fayette County Sheriff Wayne Hannah is inviting the public to participate in National Night Out 2011 Aug. 2.
This is the 28th Annual National Night Out, a crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW).
This year’s event has been scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 2 at the Fayette Pavilion. Peachtree City Police and the sheriff’s office will also hold a NNO event at Drake Field adjacent to the Peachtree City Library.
Hannah said National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anticrime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnership and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in this year’s event with the cooperation of Target at Fayette Pavilion in Fayetteville. Numerous public safety agencies have committed their assets for this event to include Fayette County Fire/EMS, Fayette County Animal Control, Fayette County 911, Fayette County Marshall’s Office, Fayetteville Police Department and Fayetteville Fire/EMS.
The event is scheduled for Aug. 2 from 6-8 p.m.
This year’s event will include fire department ladder trucks, helicopters, police vehicles, along with various other public safety equipment present for educational presentation and viewing.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office will also be participating with Peachtree City Police in the Peachtree City National Night Out, also held Aug. 2 at Drake Field from 7-9 p.m.
Last year’s NNO campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, United States territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, over 36 million people participated in National Night Out 2010.
NNO has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer nation. Plus, the benefits our community will derive from NNO will most certainly extend well beyond one night.
