The Newnan-Coweta County Airport is about to get an upgrade. A $1.167 million bid by C.W. Matthews Contracting Co. for pavement rehabilitation work in the airport’s main parallel taxiway was approved July 19 by the Coweta County Commission.

The $1,166,950 bid by Marietta-based C.W. Matthews for the West Parallel Taxiway Rehabilitation work was in response to the second project bid for the job issued by the Newnan-Coweta County Airport Authority. Matthews was the only bidder in the first bidding process, with its bid for the second advertisement coming in $4,238.65 lower than its first offer.

While approved by commissioners, the project is contingent on additional approval and funding by the Georgia Dept. of Transportation.
Bid tabulation was provided by consulting firm W.K. Dickson.

The airport features an asphalt runway measuring 5,500 feet with 133 aircraft based at the facility with an average of 71 aircraft operations each day. Aircraft based at the airport include 104 single engine planes, 19 multi-engine planes, six jet aircraft and four helicopters, according to AirNav.com.
