Fayette County resident and Sandy Creek High School graduate Camara Carter (center) and her sister and novelist Noni (at left) visit with Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed June 29 at a Recognition Week event held by the W.E.B. Du Bois Society. Camara Carter was recently honored for her high scholastic achievements by the W.E.B. Du Bois Society and leaders in the political, educational and business communities. Carter is among six students who are the 2011 class of Du Bois Scholars in the revamped program designed to provide a forum for recognizing, rewarding and celebrating academic excellence among African-American students in Georgia.
