A rezoning to allow a mix of retail, industrial and office uses on an 18-acre site north of Fayetteville was unanimously approved by the Fayette County Commission April 28.

The property, located north of Fayetteville a short distance from Roberts Road, was previously zoned for light industrial use and is partially developed with a storage unit and “incubator businesses.”

Including as-yet-unbuilt vacant lots on the property, the total approved size of the development is 220,200 square feet.

The planning commission recommended approval of the rezoning, and no one spoke against it.

In a letter to the county preceding the meeting, Fred D. Rickman Jr. of Storage Xxtra noted that the development is expected to attract “new business owners, existing businesses looking for affordable tenant space and home-based businesses that have expanded to the degree that they now need to move to an office (and out of the neighborhood).”

Commissioners Robert Horgan and Steve Brown agreed that the new zoning classification was a great idea for this location.
