A property owner is requesting for a rezoning that would allow a mix of office, commercial and light industrial uses on an 18-acre site off Ga. Highway 85 north of Fayetteville.

The Fayette County Commission is slated to consider the rezoning at its meeting Thursday night, which begins at 7 p.m.

The site, which is north of Roberts Road, already has a Storage Xxtra business on it, and currently is zoned solely for light industrial use.

The developer touts the existing use of the property as a “self storage facility and incubator businesses.”

The planning commission has recommended approval of the rezoning.

In a letter to the county, Fred D. Rickman Jr. of Storage Xxtra noted that the development is expected to attract “new business owners, existing businesses looking for affordable tenant space and home based businesses that have expanded to the degree that they now need to move to an office (and out of the neighborhood).”

Including as-yet-unbuilt vacant lots on the property, the total approved size of the development is 220,200 square feet.
