They were already winners having been selected as one of the top three teams in the nation to pitch their employment marketing ideas to Publix Supermarket corporate executives.

Whitewater High’s Yanna Banks and Lia Poulson took second place in the DECA/Publix Brand Champion Challenge following their presentation on March 29 at the Publix headquarters in Lakeland, Florida. They were the only team from Georgia in the competition.

“This is a huge honor; the girls represented Whitewater High School, Fayette County and Georgia well,” said Krystin Glover, the school’s marketing education teacher and DECA sponsor.

As second place winners, each student received a $250 cash prize awarded by Publix to use toward their expenses to the International DECA competition in May.

DECA is an organization that aims to prepare students for careers in marketing, management, leadership, and entrepreneurship.
