A 22 year-old Newnan man was arrested April 8 on multiple charges relating to the molestation of a six year-old Newnan boy.

Brandon Michael Murphy of Berry Avenue was charged with aggravated sodomy, aggravated child molestation, kidnapping and enticing a minor for indecent purposes, according to Newnan Police Department records.

Police records said that officers responded to a Burdette Place residence at approximately 6:15 p.m. on April 8 in reference to a report that a six year-old male had been sexually assaulted. Officers were told that a white male had taken the child to the opposite side of a nearby abandoned house and assaulted him at that location, reports said.

A witness to the incident scared the man off, reports said, adding that the witness provided officers with a description of the man. Police put out an alert for the man and were able to locate him at approximately 7 p.m., said reports.

Once at the police department Murphy was identified by two individuals who had been speaking with police, reports said.

Officers reported that during an interview with Murphy he admitted to sexually assaulting the boy, having taken him to the abandoned house so that no one could see what was happening.

Murphy was charged and taken to the Coweta County Jail.
