It is practically all over but the construction. The Coweta County Library Board on March 25 approved the bid by Headley Construction to build the new 6,563 square-foot Senoia library on city-owned property on Pylant Street. Groundbreaking is tentatively scheduled for April 23.
Senoia Councilman and city representative for the library project Jeff Fisher said the Coweta County Library Board voted unanimously on March 25 to accept Headley Construction as the contractor and to accept Senoia’s $59,100 change order on the project.
Fisher said the library board’s action will appear on the Coweta County Commission agenda on April 5 for discussion and potentially for final approval. The ground breaking for the new library is currently scheduled to take place on April 23, Fisher added.
The vote by the library board came only days after the Senoia City Council unanimously agreed to approve $59,000 in changes to the exterior of the building.
The 6,563 square-foot library will be situated on 1.04-acres of city-owned property on Pylant Street and is bound on the north by residential property, on the south by the city-owned Marimac Lakes Park and on the east by the Pylant Street Well property, also owned by the city. The library will have parking space for 35 vehicles.
The Coweta County Library Board nearly two years ago approved a recommendation for the placement of the building on the Pylant Street property. The board at the time said construction was likely 12-18 months away.
Though it pertains to sometime into the future and only if needed, the library could be expanded to include up to 50 percent more square footage due to the positioning of the building on the site. If an expansion were ever needed it would require relocating the parking area. The recession notwithstanding, Senoia’s population increased by 90.28 percent between 2000-2010.
