The Senoia City Council Monday night gave approval for the Georgia Cup Bike Race to be held in downtown Senoia on April 16. The race is a part of the Georgia Cup organization that includes bike races, running and triathlon series.
The April 16 event will include two components. Beginning that morning organizers will hold a 14-mile time trial that will begin at city hall and onto Couch Street then out Stallings Road into unincorporated Coweta County.
Then later in the day riders will compete in a criterium that will essentially convert several downtown streets into a track for a total of eight laps.
Traffic in the downtown area during the April 16 events will be diverted onto Coweta Street.
In making the request, Georgia Cup representative Brady Rogers said event staff will be responsible for the notification of residents in and around the track and for securing off-duty police officers and the clean-up after the event.
And then on April 17, the Georgia Cup will move to Brooks in south Fayette County for a road race.
