Yes, all that and more will be found at The Marketplace at Providence United Methodist Church this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 24, 25 and 26.
For this free event, the church campus is set up like a village in biblical days with artisans weaving, making pottery, making a mosaic, tending to animals, grinding grain and taking a census.
Providence invites children to “step back in time” where they can make perfume, press olives, make jewelry, weave fabric, make a mosaic, try Hebrew writing and make pottery.
When each child enters the village they are given a bag to hold crafts they make, a headpiece to wear and keep, a map so they can find their way through the village, and Roman “coins” to redeem for the camel ride, cookies, chicken, rock wall, archery and to pay taxes.
As they go through the Marketplace they will hear singing, see children dancing to ancient music, watch children juggling, and watch a live show.
“This is the third year of the Marketplace and this one will be the best ever. We have some new things added this year, but don’t want to spoil the surprise so everyone will have to come out and see for themselves,” Senior Pastor Warren Huddleston explains. “Just like in past years, everything is free, including real camel rides, a rock-climbing wall, archery and family photos. It’s a great chance to get the family out of the house and away from the TV and computer to do something different and to see how life may have been over 2000 years ago.”
The Marketplace is open 6-9 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 4-9 p.m. on Saturday. To see a flyer for the event, go to www.provumc.com
Providence is at 592 Bernhard Rd., Fayetteville, in southern Fayette County between Redwine Road and Ga. Highway 85.
