Reverend John “Maurice” Fain, 82, of Jonesboro, died November 25, 2010.
He was a guidance counselor for 23 years for Fayette County High School and was an interim pastor, mission pastor for the Eastside Baptist Church of Riverdale and First Baptist Church of Peachtree City and pastor for numerous other churches in the Atlanta South Metro area. The last 10 years, Rev. Fain was the director of prison ministry at First Baptist Church of Jonesboro.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Betsy Fain, grandson Andrew Harrison Battle, one brother, and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years DeLores Fain of Jonesboro; daughters Melanie Fain and Alan H. Smith of Waco, TX and Stephanie Fain and Dr. Don Battle of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren Melanie Katherine Burch of Waco, TX, Kyle Carney Smith of Little Rock, AR, Audrey DeLores Jean Smith of Waco, TX, Dahler James Battle of Birmingham, AL, and Douglas Jackson Battle of Birmingham, AL; sister Esther Porteus of Buffalo Grove, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 29, 2010 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Jonesboro with Rev. Irvin Pearre officiating. The body will lie in state Monday from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the service. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Missions/Prison Ministry of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro 147 Church Street, Jonesboro, GA 30236 in memory of Rev. Maurice Fain.
