The Peachtree City Police Department is offering a class on online safety, particularly as it relates to the uber-popular social networking site Facebook.

The class will focus on features on Facebook and elsewhere online that can enhance safety and security, officials said. The class will be held Thursday, Nov. 18 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the police department.

In addition to an overview of safety and security features, there will also be a question and answer session to discuss all online and Internet-related topics, officials said.

The department is hoping to convince families to attend as well as individuals, since the view of parents can sometimes be quite different from those of teens and young adults, police said.

The class is open to the first 40 registrants, so early registration is encouraged. To register, contact Capt. Rosanna Dove at 770-632-4105 or at rdove@peachtree-city.org. When sending an email or leaving a message, provide the first and last name and the age of each participant. The forum is recommended for everyone 13 and up.

Light refreshments will be provided.

This is the second such forum the department has offered. The first was held in conjunction with Ms. Maddie Plant of St. Paul’s Lutheran School, who initially reached out to the community and provided citizens with an overview of Facebook during a Girl Scout project.
