The Senoia Planning Commission Tuesday night voted to recommend that the City Council next month approve the site plan and landscape plan for the new Senoia Library to be located on city property along Pylant Street. The project could go to bid before the end of the year.
The proposal for the 6,563 square-foot library was submitted by Coweta County Library System Director Barbara Osborne-Harris. The property on Pylant Street is bound on the north by residential property, on the south by the city-owned Marimac Lakes Park and on the east by the Pylant Street Well property, also owned by the city.
Planning commissioners in their review of the site plan and landscape plan information for the 1.04-acre property noted the 72 parking spaces required for the library, though only 35 spaces will be located on-site.
City Administrator Richard Ferry in his report said a review of the site plan in September determined that those plans were appropriate and could be recommended for approval.
The commission Tuesday also recommended the landscape plan for approval.
Ferry on Wednesday said library system representatives indicated that the project might go to bid before the end of the year.
Funds for the project have been in place for some time. Osborne-Harris previously said $1.2 million in funding for the $1.7 million project comes from state sources that can only be used for construction and equipment. Another $500,000 comes from a previous Coweta County Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax initiative. An additional $250,000 comes from Senoia. Osborne-Harris said some of Senoia’s funds can be used to purchase books.
The library proposal is expected to be heard by the City Council in November.
