The Peachtree City Dog Park Association (PTCDPA) recently held the grand opening of its one acre park expansion recentl. Peachtree City Mayor Don Haddix and Council Member Vanessa Fleisch were there to cut the ribbon.
There was a large crowd of dog owners and dogs present for the festivities. The expansion project increases the park’s size to over three acres and includes a significant amount of additional shade for the warm sunny days. Future plans for the expansion area include a large seating pavilion.
The cost of the expansion was funding through membership fees and the Adopt-A-Fence program where member families donate $100 in memory of a former dog or in honor of a current one. Each family has a plaque mounted on the park fence in their honor.
Mayor Haddix let the dog owners know he appreciated the role the dog park plays in the community, giving both dogs and owners a wonderful place to play and relax.
In addition to the new expansion area, the PTCDPA has added a concrete pool pad so dogs splash in the water, freeze-proof hydrants to provide water in winter and a multitude of chairs and benches. By the end of the year, the association is expected to spend over $15,000 on improvements at the park.
The dog park is unique in that it is completely user funded through memberships and entry fees.
“Essentially, we have empowered the users, giving them the ability to make substantial improvements, creating one of the best dog parks in our part of the country,” explained PTCDPA President Steve Brown. “Our park is safe, clean and fun with user satisfaction being very high.”
The Dog Park is located at 191 McIntosh Trail behind the BMX track. Park memberships for Fayette County residents are $35 for 12 months and non-member entry fees are $1 per visit.
The Peachtree City Dog Park Association is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation contracting with the city government to manage and operate the park. The dog park has a page on Facebook.com and can also be found at www.ptcdogpark.com. The park is open seven days a week from dawn until dusk.
