Anyone driving along Hood Avenue in Fayetteville recently has noticed work crews on the south side of the street.

A part of the Connecting Sidewalks Project, the federal stimulus-funded walkways are being installed from Ga. Highway 85 to Landings Drive and along portions of White Road and Ga. Highway 92.

Approved by the Fayetteville City Council in June, the $408,552 low bid will result in an 8-foot wide sidewalk on the south side of Hood Ave. from Landings Drive to Hwy. 85, a 5-foot and 8-foot-wide sidewalk on the south side of White Road from Heaton Lakes to Ga. Highway 314 and an 8-foot-wide sidewalk on the northeast side of Hwy. 92 North from Timberlane Drive to Hwy. 85, said city Public Services Director Don Easterbrook.

Easterbrook noted that this is a federal stimulus funded project and it will cover 100 percent of the construction costs, plus inspection costs and project management costs.
