Drivers who normally use Sandy Creek Road will have to make other plans next week.
The Fayette County Department of Public Works announced Tuesday that beginning Oct. 4 Sandy Creek Road from Hood Avenue to Piedmont Fayette Hospital will be closed to through traffic for five days.
The closure will occur so that work crews can complete the intersection of Sandy Creek Road and the West Fayetteville Bypass.
Public Works Director Phil Mallon said access to the portion of Sandy Creek Road between Hood Avenue and the Sandy Creek Road entrance to the hospital will be limited to residents living within the closure area.
The detour plan for the affected portion of Sandy Creek Road shows motorists using Tyrone Road and Flat Creek Trail as alternative routes.
Mallon said the department hopes to have the intersection work completed by the end of the day next Friday, Oct. 8.
