Braelinn Kroger shopping center, here is my shopping list: 1. Southwestern decor does not match, purple roof on Kane Yama, other buildings are brick. 2. Ugly Red K-Mart sign. 3. No awning to protect you from the sun or 50 inches of rain we get annually in Fayette County. 4. Filthy restaurant with a low inspection rating. 5. Confusing parking lot with no shade trees just bushes. 6. Music not playing today, probably broken. 7. Ugly silver decorations on the planters. 8. Dirty restrooms in Kroger. 9. The bumpy faux brick. This is not conducive to shopping carts, wheel chairs, baby strollers, walkers, high heels or people who have difficulty walking. Does this pass code for special needs people? 10. Money spent in the wrong way — priceless!

How I wish that we could have seen a sea of American humanity in DC this weekend celebrating how far we have come in this country regarding race relations. Instead, what was witnessed was the continued separation for the most part of black and white Americans. Our enemies continue to win. We may be destroyed from within. We can reach the moon, travel long distances in a short amount of time, cure diseases such as polio, but we can’t get along as Americans. The Christian doctrine teaches that we are all the children of God … not black, white, Jew, Buddhist, Muslim, conservative, liberal, etc. This is a difficult lesson for mere mortals to learn and/or practice. Some are criticized here for reflecting spiritually on our problems — yet that was the announced purpose of the Restore Honor assembly/rally. King’s “I Have A Dream” speech was a call for all Americans to join together. That goal is commendable, and we’re still on the journey to reflecting the words of our Constitution. The two rallies Saturday show that we have a little further to go on the journey.

There is a grant that was supposed to be written by the Fayette County Stormwater Department to help pay for the repair of public stormwater drains that are easements on taxpayers’ properties. These drains are in terrible need of repair. The grant has been tabled. I was told that the grant is for those taxpayers that have easements that fall inside of the right of way. Aren’t our tax dollars suppose to pay for that? The county expects individual homeowners to foot the bill for MAJOR construction work that they have failed to maintain or repair. Children and pets could fall into one of these drains. It is a big hazard.

Infinite Campus is a powerful tool for parents that not only enables the parents to see the progress of their children’s grade, but could also show parents when assignments are due. It is time that the teachers start populating the assignments in Infinite Campus rather than posting it on a separate team site.

Re: the lack of upkeep for PTC’s grounds etc. The island on our street has not been touched in over six months. I have been told by someone at City Hall that there was a contract with an outsourced company to only cut grass, etc., two or three times a year. Wow, have they forgotten grass grows constantly, especially in the spring and summer? Whoever is responsible for this strange contract must not have a yard or property in their area that needs weekly cutting. It is a shame that to save money in the city’s budget they had to let the maintenance workers go because they couldn’t afford them and hire an outside company to maintain the city and neighborhoods’ grounds. The way I see it, this company is not doing their job, but if they weren’t hired to cut but two times a year, it is not all their fault. This is a strange and unwise contract in my opinion. Is the city going to pay us to maintain the entrances to our subdivisions, and our islands? Haven’t got my check yet, has anyone else? Rabbits, raccoons, and even deer are beginning to enjoy all of this growth. I saw three large deer just the other night just grazing away. When does hunting season begin?

Recently a survey was sent out regarding gas golf carts. Out of 55,000 people it only took around 1,000 negative responses to get the City Council to consider banning gas golf carts. Personally I hate the bicycle races. They happen too often and when they do, local officials practically shut down half the town. People are locked into their subdivisions and sent on ridiculous detours. If you ask the police for advice often they send you to a different roadblock because they don’t even know what is going on. I think it is time to put a stop to this nuisance. If 1,000 people send a letter to City Hall maybe we can end the Spandex invasion.

I totally agree with the Free Speech contribution, “What is going on in Peachtree City?” Without question, the best part of our city is the golf cart paths, and it just amazes me that some people whose properties abut on them choose to dump their yard waste there where it is visible to all. On one particular path in town there is one dump that is about 15 feet in length and not too far away another site that is about 7 feet high right next to a creek. I think the most telling thing of all is that the town shows no interest in correcting this.

Just how hard is it for someone on a golf cart or bicycle to give an audible signal to a pedestrian on the cart paths? It’s not all about you people. How about showing a little courtesy to the walkers/runners and let them know you are coming up behind them. Really, it’s not that hard.

To the people that are pushing getting rid of the “gas” powered golf carts: You might as well get rid of the police motorcycle and any other motorcycles in PTC. Then get rid of the gas-powered lawn mowers, weed eaters, yard maintenance equipment, edgers, school buses, airplanes. (Large airplanes flying over our neighborhoods in PTC is a large concern. If we wanted to be close to that, we would move back toward Atlanta.) What about the few boats we have that enjoy our lake? No gas for them! Let’s also take away courtesy of the gas-powered golf cart for future homeowners to tour our city, or to take people back and forth around town. And I guess we all will have to purchase “electric” powered cars. Boy, our town has changed from years gone by. Progress has changed in a downward direction instead of upward.
