This Saturday, the legendary singer/songwriter Johnny Rivers makes his way to the Villages Amphitheater in Fayetteville.
In 1964, Johnny Rivers began a stellar string of 29 chart hits, eventually selling over 30 million records and also ushered in the decade known as The Go Go Generation. His first national hit, “Memphis” went straight to #1 that year. Afterwards, he continued to write and produce award winning songs for himself and other great entertainers of the day.
In the 1970’s, he returned with “Rockin’ Pneumonia & the Boogie Woogie Flu,” “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Help Me, Rhonda” (with Brian Wilson on vocals) and “Slow Dancin’ (Swayin’ to the Music).”
More recently, his music has been brought to a younger audience when “Secret Agent Man” was featured in the popular hit film Austin Powers and Bowfinger (starring Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy). He also released a brand new album last year titled “Shadows on the Moon” that scored critical acclaim, blending the styles of R&B and jazz, with Mediterranean and Eastern musical flavors.
Amphitheater Director, Brian Wismer expects this to be a crowd favorite. “I am surprised with how many calls we have received from folks outside of Georgia that are planning to attend. Johnny doesn’t tour extensively, so people are coming from all over to see him perform. We are especially excited to have him in Fayetteville,” said Wismer.

Also appearing at the Villages later this summer are The Little River Band on July 10th, The Family Stone on July 31st and Grand Funk Railroad on August 28. The 2010 concert series is presented by Mercedes-Benz of South Atlanta.
The Villages Amphitheater is owned by the Downtown Development Authority and managed by the Main Street Tourism Association of Fayetteville.
