Two Eagle Scouts from Fayette County are serving as Congressional Pages in Washington D. C.  Nate Shepherd, a student at Starr’s Mill High School, and Thomas Marion, a student at The University of West Georgia, accepted appointments from Congressman Lynn A. Westmoreland to serve the 111th Congress.

Both boys have experienced history in the making.  They were on the House floor the night of the State of the Union Address and they both served the night of the historic health care bill vote.  Thomas and Nate attend the Page School at the Library of Congress in the mornings and then walk to the Capitol to begin their work day which can include everything from raising flags over the House to running correspondence for the lawmakers to retrieving and delivering statements and more.

The Page Program has been in existence since 1827.

Each boy has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and both boys have served their communities and schools well, garnering outstanding academic and leadership awards.
