“If we don’t do this with donations and volunteer labor she will lose the home.”
That is the long and short of a predicament faced by Grantville resident whose home was severely damaged by a storm earlier this week. Coweta County home renovator and local Habitat for Humanity board member Jim Sells is working to help the woman secure the labor and materials needed to rebuild the extensively damaged portion of the home.
Sells Wednesday said he is arranging what should be sufficient labor to do the work, but the project is in need of a point person for the donations of money and materials needed for the work.
The situation, said Sells, is that the storm winds pushed a large oak tree onto the residence at 141 Grady Smith Street.
“While the folks were home, no one was injured. The kitchen and bathroom were destroyed and the house cannot be occupied,” Sells told The Citizen. “The lady that owns the home has very modest means. The house valued at $23,000 was not insured. She will need help getting the tree removed and repairing her home. Would you please pass this on and put her in your prayers.”
Sells said a volunteer with experience removing trees has offered his services and is expected to have that work done sometime Friday. But finding someone to coordinate the donations remains a significant need.
“Is there someone out there that would be the point person to try to organize donations and volunteers to make the repairs once the tree is removed?” Sells asked.
