Coweta County commissioners last week unanimously approved a conditional use permit for White Oak Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church on Gordon Road for a campus expansion that includes a 20,000 square-foot building, a 7,500 square-foot classroom building, recreation complex and 274 additional parking spaces.

County zoning administrator Angela White in an April letter said the 27.13-acre properties included in the request are located on the north side of Gordon Road, west of the existing White Oak Presbyterian Church and Cemetery, along with four acres on the south side of Gordon Road. The campus expansion project required the request for a conditional use permit, White said.

White said the ministry is proposing to construct a new 20,000 square-foot church building that will include an 8,000 square-foot sanctuary with fixed seating. A rendering of the new church building showed a traditional facility with brick walls, columns and a metal roof and steeple.

The proposal also includes a 7,500 square-foot brick and brick facade building for classrooms located to the east of the sanctuary. And to the west of the sanctuary, plans call for a recreational complex that will include a children’s playground, pavilions, restrooms and two lighted ballfields.

The proposal also showed the addition of 274 parking spaces, White said.

White said there would be no daycare or private school associated with the facility.

The four-acre property on the south side of Gordon Road is slated for a future expansion of the current cemetery, White said.

The county planning department estimated a total of 1,007 vehicle trips on Sundays, along with 250 trips on weekdays and 285 trips on Saturdays, indicting a moderate traffic impact.

The request had been previously recommended for approval by county planning staff and the Board of Zoning Appeals.
