Feds and oil slicks just don’t mix well

Too bad it’s been a slow news cycle. It seems as if there’s nothing to talk about. So, let’s talk about the little oil puddle in the Gulf of Mexico.

Ever hear of a fire boom? Not to worry, apparently, the federal government forgot what they are as well.

A fire boom is a large structure that can be towed to an oil spill during its early stages to burn the oil off of the water. Oddly enough, this keeps the oil from washing up on the shore and killing off wildlife and destroying local economies.

It’s also why the feds haven’t burned off the oil like they said they were going to do in the first place. That made sense to me. We are going to burn the oil off of the surface of the water to prevent an environmental disaster. That’s what we were told.

The “In-Situ Burn” plan produced by federal agencies in 1994 calls for responding to a major oil spill in the Gulf with the immediate use of fire booms.

But, in order to conduct a successful test burn, eight days after the Deepwater Horizon well began releasing massive amounts of oil into the Gulf, officials had to purchase one from a company in Illinois.

So when this happened, American officials called Alaska American Marine and said, Do you have any of these fire boom things that we are supposed to be keeping by law? We could only find one in our country; one.

The government then called BP and said, Can you call some friends around the world? The government was supposed to have fire booms. It’s part of the law. They didn’t have them. They didn’t do their job. Shocker!

That doesn’t sound at all familiar — like what happened when the feds passed a law on building a big fence along our southern border. You remember; when the government had to, by law, build a border fence and they didn’t?

I must be completely misreading this. These stories are completely dissimilar. That’s really interesting. I keep wondering why they haven’t lit fire and burned off that oil.

The United States of America is calling other countries to say, Can we borrow some of that equipment of yours? Meanwhile, the feds are demonizing BP all the while.

By the way, to which recent presidential campaign was BP a big, big contributor?

Bing! Barrack Obama.

Probably hoping that Barack Obama wouldn’t put them out of business with all kinds of crazy new laws and taxes. Imagine that.

Silly rabbit, tricks are for kids.
