Television shows continue to expand as the Fayette County High School Select Chorus puts together the best of the new and the old in their 33rd annual Variety Show, “Channel Surfing.”
The 49 juniors and seniors in the choir, under the direction of Richard Prouty, are currently rehearsing every day of the week to put together this year’s “everything music” production. Of course, the students rehearse during class, but that hour every day would never be enough rehearsal for the kind of excellence and fun for which these dedicated singers strive. In the midst of hectic academic lives, the members of Select Chorus find enough time to be at morning dance workshops, evening rehearsals and afternoon committee meetings for props, costumes, publicity and ticket sales.
“Channel Surfing” displays TV’s finest shows from the 50’s all the way through the 21st century. Feast your eyes on the transformation of color as each show is presented. Beginning with a full black and white ensemble, the Select Chorus will gradually incorporate more color as each year goes by. Along with color, the choir will transform their style of dance through each song. With swing dancing in “Jump, Jive, and Wail,” traditional Indian dancing in “O Re Kanchi,” and modern hip-hop in the closing number “Fame” the Select Chorus will make each moment of the show worth your while.
This year’s must-see variety show will take place on Apr. 22-24, at 7:30 p.m. and on Apr. 25 at 3 p.m. at the FA Sams Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for students, $8 for adults and $10 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased from any Select Chorus member or at the FCHS front office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. For any further information, please contact Richard Prouty at 770-460-3540 ext. 128.
