Historical Concepts, based in Peachtree City, has been named the winner of the Arthur Ross Award, one of the top architecture awards in the country.

Offered by the Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America (ICA&CA), the juried award honors architects, craftsman, patrons and others dedicated to enhancing and preserving classical traditions in architecture, urbanism and their allied arts.

“Winning the Arthur Ross Award is particularly satisfying because it recognizes the work we have been so passionate about for nearly three decades,” said Historical Concepts founder James L. Strickland, whose firm, based in Peachtree City, Georgia, is this year’s recipient in the Architecture category.

With a Masters Degree from Yale and a background in construction, Strickland founded Historical Concepts in 1982 as a design/build firm constructing homes that emulated classic American architecture. Today Historical Concepts stands as a leader among traditional place-making firms, specializing in the design of custom homes, historic districts, and traditional communities based on the long-standing principles of traditional architecture and planning.

“At a time when traditional architecture was considered passé, we built homes that struck a chord with people who wanted to live in something that felt authentic and timeless,” said Strickland, whose firm now focuses exclusively on architecture and planning. “This award really belongs to the clients who have given us such tremendous design opportunities over the years.”

Along with partners Terry Pylant, Aaron Daily, Andrew Cogar, Kevin Clark, and managing partner Todd Strickland, founder Jim Strickland leads a 30-person design team creating home designs in a broad range of historically inspired styles for clients across the country.

The awards ceremony and celebration dinner will take place on Monday, May 3, 2010 at the University Club, One West 54th Street in New York City. For more information please contact The Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America at 212-730-9646 or visit www.HistoricalConcepts.com.
