The 10th Annual Southern Crescent Alzheimer’s Memory Walk was held in early October in Peachtree City with over 1,500 people participating.   Organized teams of walkers came from six South Atlanta counties, including Clayton, Coweta, Fayette, Henry, South Fulton and Spalding.  Each team raised funds or solicited donations from various sources.  Sponsors, businesses and individuals also donated cash or made in-kind contributions to fight this dreaded disease and assist those afflicted.  The final numbers are in….and a new record of giving was set.  Final cash and in-kind donations totaled $230,337, the most ever collected in a single year.   After deducting expenses and in-kind donations, the Georgia Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association received $201,349 from the walk.  All individuals associated with the walk are non-salaried volunteers.
Over the past 10 years the Memory Walk raised a total of $1,728,000 in cash and in-kind donations with $1,507,000 going to the Alzheimer’s Association.
