John Douglas Manes, 73 of New Orleans, La., died Saturday, August 8, 2015, of complications of COPD.  

He was the son of the late Jack and Madeline Manes and the beloved husband of Katharine Manes.  

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, his sons, Jack (Jeannine) and Mike (Laura), two grandchildren, Jackson and Anna, sister Sylvia (Malcolm, deceased), brother, Timothy (Linda), and predeceased by his brother, Mark (Myo).  John also leaves behind a host of nephews, nieces and friends. 

John graduated from Fortier High School, New Orleans, La.  He was a graduate of Louisiana State University with a degree in Industrial Technology.  He proudly served in the Air Force, attaining the rank of Captain.  John worked for Ralston Purina, assisting in the opening of the Atlanta Plant in 1972.  He worked for Superior Rigging as an Estimator and Project Manager for 25 years.

John and Kathie, who resided for 43 years in Fayette County, Georgia were members of Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City, Ga.  

He will be remembered for his smile, his kindness, his gentleness, his sense of humor, and his loving heart.

Services will be held on Sunday, September 6, 2015, at 3 p.m. at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City, Ga.
